Tasting Notes: The Underwood Pinot Noir has aromas of ripe cherries, plum and bacon. The palate is filled with sweet cherry, raspberries, and chocolate. This accessible wine is yummy with fine tannins that come together in a fruit laden finish. The Wine: Underwood Pinot Noir speaks of a journey across Oregon. Sourcing fruit from vineyards spanning the peaks and valleys of the state, this wine is the perfect everyday refresher. We look for sites that give us diversity, low elevation for ripeness and intensity, high elevation for acidity and aromatics. From Walla Walla to the Willamette Valley to the Umpqua, these sites allow us to create this truly Oregon Pinot Noir. The Vintage: The 2013 growing season started off with a fairly typical Oregon spring, with stretches of warm and cold weather. Flowering in the Willamette Valley and Umpqua Valley was early and the fruit set ranged from average to above average for Pinot Noir. As spring became summer the rains let up and we enjoyed a wonderfully warm and dry season. As the summer progressed it became apparent that we were heading for a very early harvest. The Umpqua vineyards were mostly harvest by the end of September under warm, dry conditions. In the Willamette we waited for the rains to pass and harvested clean fruit with balanced flavors in mid-October. Cellar Treatment: Aged 6 months on 15% new French Oak Vineyard Sources: 60% Umpqua Valley 40% Willamette Valley Alcohol: 13.0% at 60F pH: 3.73 TA: 4.7 g/L Residual Sugar: Less than .2%
