Umani Ronchi Verdicchio Verdicchio Dei Castelli di Jesi 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

The grapes for this great Verdicchio are harvested from the 14ha Casal di Serra vineyard in Montecarotto. Ripeness is ensured by harvesting slightly later than usual, and yields are kept very low (80/90 hundredweight/hectare, less than half the usual for Verdicchio). Grapes are hand harvested and pumped into a Vaslin press. A proportion of the wine undergoes a cold soak process, which allows a better extraction of varietal characteristics. Following this, the wine is matured in stainless steel tanks for 5 months, after which it is bottle aged for a few more months prior to release. The result of all this effort is a wine with intense, round and fresh aromas leading to a dry, soft palate with notes of ripe peaches, apples, exotic fruits, hazelnuts, butter and minerality. Serve it on its own on warm summer days or with one of the following: shrimp toast with pickled ginger, pasta with summer vegetables, citrus tarragon chicken or warm jasmine rice salad with shrimp and Thai herbs.

Since the beginning of its history, the Azienda Vinicola Umani Ronchi has distinguished itself as a great interpreter of two of the most typical wines of the Marche region, Verdicchio and Rosso Conero. Massimo Bernetti, who since the 1990s has been joined in the management of the Company by his son Michele (see photo), has created wines which are appreciated throughout the world, has renovated the vineyard stock and has refurbished the great winery at Osimo, but he is not yet satisfied and stubbornly insists on following the imperatives of a product of the highest quality. All this translates into serious work of experimental agronomy and vineyard care, and the adoption of the most advanced techniques of cultivation and vinification. n the last few years the growth of interest in the wines produced in the neighbouring region of Abruzzo led Umani Ronchi SpA in 2002 to purchase a 30 hectare holding in the Teramane hills, a designated sub-area of Doc Montepulciano d'Abruzzo which has achieved an upgrade to the prestigious appellation Docg. Here, in the picturesque farmhouse which dominates an estate well-planted with vineyards, a vinification winery is to be constructed, to join the existing ageing cellar. Read less

Yummy, yummy, yummy. This wine is fantastic for the money. Heck, it's fantastic for a lot more money! Floral and sour... in a great way. Highly recommended.

Grün-strohgelb glitzernd, delikates Bouquet nach frischen Früchten, trotz grosser Persistenz feingliedrig und elegant. Ein frisch-fruchtiger Wein mit mittlerem Gehalt und einem vielschichtigen Abgang.
