External Review by Great Wines Direct:

Broad, very intense and fruity, with notes of matured apricot, pineapple, peach, hints of wild mint, sage and nut.Owned by the Bianchi-Bernetti family for well over 50 years, Umani Ronchi has become one of Italy s most respected and go-ahead producers thanks to its championing of local wines such as Verdicchio Classico and Rosso Conero.Over the past few decades, the company s quest for ever-better quality has led it to build up an estate of some 200 hectares of vineyards - 110 hectares in Verdicchio Classico, 60 hectares in Rosso Conero and 30 hectares in Abruzzo.Grapes: 100% VerdicchioMaker: Emidio FelicettiRegion: Italy / Marche / Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico SuperioreNotes: Golden yellow with a bright greenish hue. The nose is broad, very intense and fruity, with notes of matured apricot, pineapple, peach, hints of wild mint, sage and nut. On the palate the wine is dry, elegant and smooth, with a lively and well-balanced acidity adding a crispness to the finish.Serve: At 12-14c with fish and salads, but it will also cope fuller flavours such as grilled chicken or roasted pork, quail, octopus or lobster.ABV: 14.5%

Since the beginning of its history, the Azienda Vinicola Umani Ronchi has distinguished itself as a great interpreter of two of the most typical wines of the Marche region, Verdicchio and Rosso Conero. Massimo Bernetti, who since the 1990s has been joined in the management of the Company by his son Michele (see photo), has created wines which are appreciated throughout the world, has renovated the vineyard stock and has refurbished the great winery at Osimo, but he is not yet satisfied and stubbornly insists on following the imperatives of a product of the highest quality. All this translates into serious work of experimental agronomy and vineyard care, and the adoption of the most advanced techniques of cultivation and vinification. n the last few years the growth of interest in the wines produced in the neighbouring region of Abruzzo led Umani Ronchi SpA in 2002 to purchase a 30 hectare holding in the Teramane hills, a designated sub-area of Doc Montepulciano d'Abruzzo which has achieved an upgrade to the prestigious appellation Docg. Here, in the picturesque farmhouse which dominates an estate well-planted with vineyards, a vinification winery is to be constructed, to join the existing ageing cellar. Read less
