Umani Ronchi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2004
A style Montepulciano that is smooth and easy drinking, low acidity, mellow. From selected grapes grown in the hills of the Abruzzo Region, which lies alongside the Adriatic Sea just south of Le Marche. Fermentation in steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation and then refinement in the bottle for several weeks before releasing. The color is ruby red with purple reflections. Accompaniment: most pasta dishes, meat sauces, and meats, or just quaffing.
2.75 stars Nose: Medium+ intensity nose of cotton candy, mocha, black cherry; Palate: medium+ soft tannins, mocha, black cherry, slight espresso on finish. The finish was a bit disjointed -- the flavors did not transition well from one to the other.
