Uccelliera Rosso di Montalcino 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Floral, absolute perfumy and tense with fine raspberry fruit, mineral tones and vaguely herbal aromas. All this detail and complexity comes through on the palate as well. Rich and tense, there’s a lovely core of lovely red fruit, cherries and spice, her with with great acids and fine, angular tannins that are rough but not dry. Classic tannins that really linger on the long finish. 91pts

This estate is located in the southern part of the Montalcino DOCG and was formerly part of the Ciacci Piccolomini's holdings. The wines are big and bold, though far from opaque, and filled with dark cherry fruit.

Age-worthy Brunello from a classic producer. Amazing fruit character with dusty red berry fruit, a touch of clay mineral and elegance on the palate. You'll appreciate the age on this regal wine.

Lovely perfume of crushed red raspberries on this bright, ruby-colored Sangiovese. Elegant, sensuous texture loaded with dark cherry fruit and a velvety finish.

Andrea Cortonesi, the former cellarmaster at Mastrojanni, owns some very fine vineyards near Castelnuovo dell'Abate. The style is international, but not excessively so, and is well exemplified by the 2001 Rosso di Montalcino. Ruby/garnet with ripe black cherry, plum, and tar aromas, its flavors are silky, round, but substantial, with good definition and depth. This is a high level wine for the category.

Wow! The 2000 Rosso di Montalcino is a sexy fleshpot filled with smoky black cherry and currant fruit, an opulent texture, great purity, and tremendous fruit as well as glycerin. It is impossible to resist this excellent value. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years.

The 2002 Rosso di Montalcino, smooth, elegant, tarry, and toasty, offers some light notes of game to give further interest to the aromas and flavors.
