Uccelleira Rosso di Montalcino 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

“The 2009 Rosso di Montalcino is a gorgeous entry-level wine. Flowers, mint and tobacco add complexity to the layered fruit, while the focus shows considerable verve and minerality. This is a great achievement in 2009. *I would be hard-pressed to name another grower who has made such huge strides in recent years as has Andrea Cortonesi*. The artisan tradition of Montalcino is alive and well in this small, no-frills winery, while the wines have never been better.” Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Earthy and well-balanced with sweet, ripe fruit flavors and vibrant acidity." NY Times, 10/26/11

Very concentrated red fruit; explodes in your mouth; lingering finish. Excellent value at $27.99

This estate is located in the southern part of the Montalcino DOCG and was formerly part of the Ciacci Piccolomini's holdings. The wines are big and bold, though far from opaque, and filled with dark cherry fruit.
