Two Mile Sangiovese Lentz Vineyards 2007

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

There’s very noticeable oak here, all maple and sweet, with plenty of vanilla. At the same time this shows some really impressive Sangiovese fruit, all lichen topped, stone crushed strawberries flecked with the occasional black currant. On the palate, this is rather powerful and very smooth. There’s a real sense of polish to the mouth feel even though the tannins remain firm and gently austere and the acid nicely supportive. The fruit turns a bit chunky in the mouth yet retains a lovely blend of strawberry and herb right through the finish, which is cut short by a quite formidable wall of wood tannins. Still, this has lovely fruit, shows a bit of heat on the finish. Probably will improve over the short term, next two to five years. 89pts

Two Mile began as a group of wine and food lovers with a passion for the moments surrounding an exceptional bottle of wine. That sense you get when you open a bottle and take the time to breathe deeply and appreciate both everything the bottle and night have to offer. Those pauses are what make life so wonderful. Since that time, we've gone through many transformations. But many things have not changed: a grounded belief in local grower relationships and the land they work, as evidenced in our continued investment in the highest quality fruit that California has to offer, produced nearly exclusively organically and biodynamically; a love of "true" wine which bucks conventional technique; a love of friends and family which guides every decision we make. . We make wine in Berkeley and Alameda, with grapes from Sonoma, Livermore, and the Central Coast. We have unique relationships with our growers, and they grow grapes in the same way we make wine – with their family, their hands, and a passion for what they do. The fruit makes its way to our Berkeley winery an hour after we manage the pick. We're urban, but not in a "we're urban" way -- we simply want to do what's best, with our customers close to the production of the wine. Read less

Juicy and plummy with a some slight metallic notes hinting through. Smoke, tobacco, and that oh so lovely strawberry rhubarb pie! Quite a combo making for a very unique and delightful wine.
