User Reviews for Two Hands Shiraz Mclaren Vale Lily's Garden
Add your reviewBeautiful, intense nose of lillies. Thick, meaty mouthfeel with intense bright fruits. Very nice finish on blueberries. A wine is incredible fruity intensity.
Very forward shiraz. Herbaceous, tart and complex, beyond most, caused domestic argument in our house (she knows not wot she says). Do not drink now, cellar and wait 4 years minimum - place off limits to missus (Mrs.). Plan to sacrifice the prodigal son or failing that some surrogate for Thanksgiving 2012 or 2013. Rating now - me (moi?) 94/100, tha wife, 84/100. She knows not ... am I am as a (not the) Man and therefore am terminally misunderstood unless happens to be right .... Am praying for blessed release to drink this in 2012.
mmmmm…. complex aromas, amazingly fruity and rich, with great baking spices in the middle and wonderful balance all around. my new favorite shiraz.
Excellent deep inky purple in color. Intense fruit that lingers in the mouth for quite a while. Flavors of raspberry and plum with a light acidic finish fr balance. Great example of Aussie Shiraz!
External Reviews for Two Hands Shiraz Mclaren Vale Lily's Garden
Ripe, supple and succulent, offering a juicy mouthful of red berry, blackberry, cherry, clove and white pepper flavors that sail easily over refined tannins, picking up steam on the finish. Best from 2014 through 2020. 1,500 cases made. -HS Opaque purple. Alluring aromas of blueberry, boysenberry, star anise and violets. Lush, broad and sweet but firmly built, with a candied dark fruit quality and mounting florality. Finishes broad, juicy and sweet, with excellent finishing power and lingering spiciness.
Quality without compromise' is a core value that drives all Two Hands decisions so, not surprisingly, the wines have received international acclaim from respected wine critics, with Robert Parker proclaiming Two Hands as '...the finest negociant operation south of the equator...
The pick of the bunch from our McLaren Vale vineyards. Lily’s Garden is a generous wine with cascading blue fruits and a rich long palate.
Focused, juicy and vibrant, with raspberry, blackberry and pomegranate flavors, weaving in hints of violet, slate and loamy earth as the finish takes off. Shows depth and intensity, without much weight. Best from 2012 through 2020.
The bouquet shows concentrated aromas of plums scorched earth licorice mint and chocolate whilst exhibiting trademark McLaren Vale characters of coffee and mocha. The mouth feel and texture is immediate with concentrated flavours of cola plum and blackcurrant along a vibrant and linear backbone. The mid palate shows terrific focus the finish balanced by impeccable tannin and acid structure.
Winemaker's Notes:
Lily’s Garden represents our finest barrels of McLaren Vale Shiraz; this is the big sister to our Angels Share Shiraz. As always the wine was matured in seasoned American oak hogsheads, the older barrels offering subtle but complimentary overtones of vanillin spice; enhancing, rather than dominating, the wonderful spicy plum fruit of this wine. Typical of our McLaren Vale style, the 2005 shows delicious distinctive mocha, chocolate and sweet plum characters. Backed by a lush, plush mouthfeel and oodles of juicy ripe fruit laced with an underlying black pepper spice and a silky tight tannin structure . But don’t be deceived this is a serious wine with serious aspirations! Winemaking: Crushed into and fermented in 5-10 tonne open top fermenters with regular pump over; three daily during peak fermentation to extract colour and tannin. Following 7-14 days of maceration the dry free run is drained to tank. The skins are then pressed and the pressings tarnsferred to the same tank, the wine is then racked to barrel. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel. Minimal fining and non filtered.
