What to Expect
Australia has certainly made Syrah its own, even bestowing it with a new name: Shiraz. In the warm, dry climate of Australia this noble grape, responsible for some of the grandest wines of France, produces an intense, unique expression that is distinctly Australian. The ripe grapes take on classic notes of black pepper and leather that add depth and complexity to the black cherry and plum fruits on the palate. Australian Shiraz has typically been aged in American Oak barrels which impart the wine with a distinct note of vanilla that can add to the impression of ripeness many of these wines have, but the time in barrel also allows the wines a chance to settle and reveal their rich, voluptuously styled mouthfeel.
Winemakers Notes
Tasting Notes
The pick of the bunch from our McLaren Vale vineyards. Distinctive dark purple-black colour. Cascading blue fruits on the nose with hints of dark chocolate and subtle oak. A rich voluptuous palate with concentrated plum and dark berry fruit, supple fine tannins flow through to a long and persistant finish.
Winemaking
The grapes were crushed into and fermented in open top potters, with regular pump overs twice daily to extract colour and tannin. The grapes were then pressed and the wine was transferred to tank and then racked to barrel for oak maturation.

The extraordinary 2003 Shiraz Lily's Garden exhibits an inky ruby/purple hue to the rim in addition to a stunning aromatic display of blackberries, cassis liqueur, licorice, smoky oak, sweet chocolate, and espresso roast. A fabulously concentrated, multidimensional, layered wine with power, elegance, and a seamless personality, it can be drunk young or cellared for a decade or more. This brilliant operation is a credit to the meticulous winemaking of Michael Twelftree and his staff! -Wine Advocate
Already sold out in Australia, GET this wine while you can. Brilliant, smart black with red flints in color. A bouquet of caramel, mocha, fresh coffee beans, liquorice and a ripe mint, backed by intense dry prunes and a lifted spice. The palate is thick, concentrated and viscouse. The fruit weight is very powerful and the juicy texture coats your mouth, leaving you with an extremely long finish that is balanced and well rounded. This is a very exciting wine.
