Subdued spice and white pepper on the nose with lush bramble and berry fruit. Also aromas of dried leaves, tobacco. On the palate, it has wonderful brambly fruit. Raspberry, boysenberry, sage, thyme, black plum and almost a flaky pie crust note. Very layered and wonderful throughout! Everything is in great balance here and it's not overly jammy, spicy or anything leaning too far to one side.

Turley 00 Pesenti Zinfandel 90 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate:  The first Zinfandel from the Pesenti Vineyard vinified by Larry Turley and Ehren Jordan is the 2000. This old, 50-acre Paso Robles vineyard is planted on pure limestone (one of the few limestone vineyards in California). It carries 15.3% alcohol. The wine is structured, with surprisingly high acidity (the limestone effect), a deep ruby/purple color, graceful black currant and raspberry flavors, and hints of pepper, minerals, and spice. This elegant, European-styled Zinfandel is atypical compared to the other Turley offerings. It should drink well for a decade.

Turley 03 Pesenti Zinfandel88-91 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate: From Turley's new vineyard in Paso Robles, the 2003 Pesenti Vineyard (600 cases, 16% alcohol) comes across as one of the most Rhone Valley-like wines in the portfolio. Earthy, mineral, peppery, herbaceous notes intermixed with strawberry, cherry, and licorice emerge from this wine. There is a certain austerity and angular character in the finish that kept my score from going any higher.

Turley 01 Pesenti Zinfandel92 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate: I believe the 2001 Zinfandel Pesenti Vineyard is the first vintage where Larry Turley and winemaker Ehren Jordan controlled everything from viticulture to winemaking. Made from extremely old vines, it is a deep ruby-colored Zinfandel boasting a big, briery, sweet bouquet, considerable glycerin and flesh (15.5% alcohol), and a southern Rhone-like pepper, garrigue, and spice component. Fleshy, full-bodied, and hedonistic.

Turley 02 Pesenti Zinfandel 92-94 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate: The 2002 Zinfandel Pesenti Estate, from a 50-year old site planted on pure limestone, tastes like a classic Chateauneuf du Pape made from Grenache. The 16% alcohol is well-concealed in this 700-case cuvee. A deep ruby color is accompanied by sumptuous aromatics of kirsch liqueur kissed with melted licorice, pepper, and spice. There is tremendous precision, surprisingly good acidity (thanks to the limestone soils), and a heady, rich, full-bodied, impressive finish. This is the finest example yet fashioned from the Pesenti Estate.
