Food Pairings for Turley Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley Grist Vineyard
Floral baking spice and red berry nose. It's a lighter, more delicate, feminine wine with pretty notes over power. Flavors of red raspberry and strawberry over gentle spice influence. Like a luscious Pinot Noir version of Zinfandel. 96 pts. 9/1/12 at winery
External Reviews for Turley Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley Grist Vineyard
Reveals cherry liqueur and sandalwood notes in addition to a voluptous texture, admirable fat and succulence, exceptionally ripe fruit, low acididty and excellent length.
Grist Vineyard is a miniscule 2 acres in the Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley, located at a higher elevation on Bradford Mountain. This is a dense Zinfandel, more sturdy and structured than other examples from elsewhere in CA. It is quite dry, and will show roasted berry dusted with cocoa – not cooked/jammy, like most Zin lovers would enjoy, but something more dirty. Zinfandel can age, when its inherent big fruit character is balanced with tannic structure and acidity. Turley’s offerings exemplify Zinfandel’s potential. 1999 was a mixed vintage throughout most of Napa/Sonoma with rains from a second year of la Nina. However, many wines demonstrate depth and concentration. I am not worried about the Grist Vineyard, because, as we all know, the attention paid to a single vineyard’s fruit is much different than that to a large vineyard encompassing many terroirs. By all reports, the Grist is a worthy addition to any cellar, and will show signs of maturity now.
