The nose was intense yet elegant, showing blackberry and raspberry fruits, sweet spices, hints of charred wood and a whiff of vanilla. On the palate, I found intense, concentrated fruit kept in check by a core of streamlined acidity. Red and black fruits seemed to saturate the entire palate with hints of herbs, pepper and pure cocoa. On its own, the finish was slightly drying with palate-coating red fruits but it was perfect with a bite of beef brisket.

[Cru (by the glass): c venison p 1995 Arnaldo-Caprai Sagratino Anni 25] Tough act to follow. My palate was likely shot. Could only taste candied plum. Did not enjoy as in previous tastes.

Turley 02 Old Vines Zinfandel 89-91 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate: The 2002 Zinfandel Old Vines is a blend of lots that did not make the grade for the single vineyard offerings. No wimpy wine at 16.4% alcohol, it exhibits deep, jammy black fruits intermixed with saddle leather, pepper, and earth. With an unctuous texture as well as a big, chewy finish, it is a robust, mouthfilling, value-priced Zinfandel.

91 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate The 2000 Zinfandel Old Vines (1,100 cases) reveals a macerated, sweet jammy cherry-scented bouquet, loads of glycerin, and soft, low acid, plum/prune flavors displaying hints of balsam wood and pepper.
