External Review:

Loaded with sweet black currant, plum, and raspberry fruit is the dark ruby-colored 2003 Zinfandel Mead Ranch (a medium to full-bodied, 400-case cuvee with 16.5% alcohol grown on a mountaintop vineyard). Bluer, blacker fruits make an appearance, but ... Robert Parker. A Zinfandel wine from California in USA. 2003 Turley Cellars Zinfandel Mead Ranch Atlas Peak 750ml

The winery is a family operation helmed brother and sister duo Larry and Helen Turley, founded in 1993. Their prestigious wines are in constantly high demand, and their private wine club has a two-year waiting list. The wines are produced from several vineyards, with vines dating back to the 1800s. Each terroir lends its own character to the wines, and they are given separate labels according to location each vintage. The vineyards are located in Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Lodi, Howell Mountain and Contra Costa.  Read less

In my case, this wine was not particularly impressive immediately, but after leaving the bottle open overnight it had improved significantly.

I taste a bit of cedar in this wine. It's a robust zin that isn't overly sweet. This is one of my favorite bottles.

Wine Advocate ReviewPossessing tremendous finesse for a Zinfandel as well as surprising elegance given its 16.5% alcohol, the 2002 Zinfandel Mead Ranch Atlas Peak (400 cases) exhibits wonderful aromas of blueberries and blackberries, a distinctive smoky earthiness (probably due to the fact this vineyard is organically farmed and planted in red volcanic soil), admirable purity, and super palate presence. It should age beautifully for 7-8 years.
