Turley Wine Cellars Sonoma County Zampatti Vineyard Zinfandel 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): (16.5% alcohol; from 95-year-old vines on a hillside on the east side of Santa Rosa) Pungent aromas of blackcurrant and Tellicherry pepper. At once juicy and supple, with black cherry and dark berry flavors lifted by piquant notes of orange peel and crushed pepper and energized by pungent minerality. Admirably concentrated and very long. The crop level here in 2007 was just 1.2 tons per acre, according to winemaker Ehren Jordan. Clearly a site to watch. (May/Jun 2009)

The winery is a family operation helmed brother and sister duo Larry and Helen Turley, founded in 1993. Their prestigious wines are in constantly high demand, and their private wine club has a two-year waiting list. The wines are produced from several vineyards, with vines dating back to the 1800s. Each terroir lends its own character to the wines, and they are given separate labels according to location each vintage. The vineyards are located in Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Lodi, Howell Mountain and Contra Costa.  Read less
