Turley Hayne Petite Syrah 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2011 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard is soft, seamless and pure. Sweet red berries, raspberry jam, flowers and anise are all woven together in a wine that shows the more supple, round style of Petite Syrah. Today, the Hayne comes across as a wine that will drink well pretty much upon release...90-92" WA 12/12

The winery is a family operation helmed brother and sister duo Larry and Helen Turley, founded in 1993. Their prestigious wines are in constantly high demand, and their private wine club has a two-year waiting list. The wines are produced from several vineyards, with vines dating back to the 1800s. Each terroir lends its own character to the wines, and they are given separate labels according to location each vintage. The vineyards are located in Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Lodi, Howell Mountain and Contra Costa.  Read less

Aromas of blueberry, licorice and bitter chocolate are a bit stunted by the bottling. Juicy, primary and tight, offering black fruit, bitter chocolate and espresso flavors framed by firm minerality. There’s a creaminess lurking today but currently this wine is dominated by its sappy lift. Finishes very long and sweet, with noble tannins. This is carrying a relatively low 3.5 pH and appears to be built for a slow evolution in bottle.
