Tua Rita Syrah 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

98 points James SucklingI love the dried flowers and smoked meats with hints of plums and berries. Full body, layered and refined with an extremely pretty and textured palate. Tea and dark fruits. Deep and fantastic. Savory. 20% whole berry. Best ever? Made from organic grapes. 95 points Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateTua Rita's Syrah is quickly reaching quality levels that could put it ahead of the estate's celebrated Merlot Redigaffi. In fact, I approached this tasting of warm-vintage releases with special curiosity and anticipation for this particular wine over the others (based on how well Syrah does in hot vintages). Ultimately, the 2015 Syrah Per Sempre took a little extra time to open, and the bouquet was initially shy and reticent. Slowly and surely, it started to deliver dark fruit intensity with smoke, cured meat and spicy tobacco. The wine performs beautifully in the palate, however, and a big part of my score was inspired by the excellence of the mouthfeel. It is nuanced, rich and velvety. (ML)

Purchased in 1984, this winery is family-run, founded on Rita’s anv Virgilio’s insistence of retreating to a quite place to spend their retirement by cultivating the land , their great passion. It was exactly this enthusiasm that pushed them to concentrate their energies and means to exploit the great potential which this small plot of land was hiding. The winery, located in Notri in Suvereto, lies approximately 100 meters above sea level and is made up of medium-textured, clayey lands, rich in micro-elements such as iron and zinc that distinguish the wines with “mineral regionality” and in which the international varieties find rather favourable environment. It was thus by a lucky intuition that the couple planted Merlot and Cabernet, because by blending the two wines Giusto di Notri was born in 1992, which was instantly talked about in the national and international press for its depth and “Tuscanicity” encountered in the glass. Later they decided to leave two barriques of Merlot and make them into wine without blending: in 1994 Redigaffi would become a cult wine, the first Italian wine to obtain a score of 100/100 from Robert Parker with its 2000 vintage , enabling Tua Rita to be added to the list of the 100 best wineries of the world according to the prestigious Revue du Vin de France. An escalation of successes began for Tua Rita that over the years led it to expand and modernize the cellar. Thanks to the collaboration of their son-in-law Stefano Frascolla (owner of the winery of the same name ) and of oenologist Dr. Stefano Chioccioli the winery today extends over 50 Ha , of which 30 Ha are vines. Production stands at 110.000 bottles, spread among five red wines and two white ones. Read less
