Triton Tinta de Toro 2016

External Review:

Lively flavors of berry, currant and fresh herbs are deepened by cola and chocolate notes in this plush red. The tannins are well-integrated and balanced by good acidity. Fresh and harmonious. Drink now through 2021. 1,000 cases made.

More impressive is the 2011 Triton Tinta de Toro, which comes from the appellation of Toro. This cuvee is fermented in stainless steel then transferred to three and four-year-old French oak barrels where it stays for nine months prior to being bottled. The Toro appellation is one of Spain’s up-and-coming regions, and the quality of wines produced from its old vines tends to be impressive. This dense ruby/purple-tinged 2011 exhibits copious aromas of creme de cassis, blackberries, licorice, asphalt and charcoal. Full-bodied, mouth-saturating, long and rich, it should drink well for 7–8 years.
