Trinity Hill Sauvignon Blanc Hawke's Bay New Zealand 2008
This Champion Sauvignon Blanc (Hawkes Bay A&P Mercedes-Benz Wine Awards 2008) is the expression of 7 different vineyards, a superb season and just what Trinity Hill wants to deliver to you - a crisp, delicious and aromatic "Summer-in-a-Bottle"! This is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc 96%, Semillon 4% from various vineyards throughout Hawkes Bay: Mangatahi, Bayview, Clive, Porangahau Ngatarawa, Havelock North & Gimblett Road. The seven vineyards are in distinctively different parts of Hawkes Bay, with different soil types and climatic conditions. The wine itself holds flavours and aromas of passionfruit and nectarine which gently compliment the delicate aroma of gooseberries. A mineral character lends a distinctly Graves-like character to the wine. The addition of Semillon has added to the texture. The fresh acid is balanced by a tiny amount of retained sweetness. This is a great wine to drink on its own or it would fit well with Asian style food or fresh shellfish. Asparagus would be sensational match. Serve lightly chilled.
I was a little disappointed in this one. The nose was pretty if a little underwhelming. Not enough punch for me on the palate. Some lime notes but not a great finsh. I prefer a hair more acid in my sauvignon blancs.
