Trinity Hill Red Bordeaux Blend Hawkes Bay Gimblett Gravels 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Slightly herbal on the nose, with a hint of arugula up front followed by tense black current fruit gently framed by notes of Toblerone. Finely balanced in the mouth, with herbal and floral notes on entry that are joined by mineral-tinged black fruits on the mid-palate. This is tense through the moderately long finish, which shows a touch of wood spice and ends with lifted herbal tones. 89pts

Enjoyed this tremendously! A core of dense, dark blackberry, blueberry and black current with layers of oak expressed as a mix of dark chocolate, coconut cream, a hint of vanilla and cigar box; fine, silky tannins. Medium-full body with a lingering smokey/peppery finish. This is a superb example of right-bank Bordeaux. I will definitely be on the lookout for some more of this wine!

Dense, sweet red and dark berry flavours interwoven with classy spicy oak. An elegant and approachable wine made in a more forward style than in the past. Very appealing red from a good vintage.
