Trinchero Haystack Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

The pinnacle of the Trinchero Family Estates portfolio, Trinchero Napa Valley delivers limited-production, estate-grown wines that honor the legacy of founder Mario Trinchero. Wines bearing the Trinchero Napa Valley label are luxury-class, predominantly single-vineyard wines from the family's Napa Valley estates. Haystack Vineyard is nestled way up in Atlas Peak, Napa Valley’s highest appellation that sits 1,500 feet above sea level in the Vaca Mountains. This craggy, extremely rocky site stresses the vines, resulting in small, intensely concentrated berries. The 2011 growing season began with a wet cool spring. Rainfall lasted into the middle of June affecting bloom and diminishing yields in many vineyards. The cool weather trend continued all summer delaying ripening throughout Napa Valley. Since we are estate, we diligently monitor all our vineyards, adjusting our viticultural practices frequently. It was necessary to significantly open up the vine canopies to ensure adequate sun exposure, air circulation and ripening. Overall flavors in the grapes were achieved at lower sugar levels making lower alcohol wines that exhibit finesse and balance. Our Haystack Cabernet is true to its mountain origins, with intense purple color and aromas of cassis, tar and black fruits. Brooding dark purple fruit flavors with hints of Mexican chocolate and grilled game lead into a mouth-coating and viscous wine teaming with tenacious tannins and lingering through a long finish. Aged for twenty months in 100% French oak (90% new).

Trinchero Napa Valley:
'The Trincher Napa Valley winery is a work of art unto itself- -the perfect place to craft our new luxury wines. As an architect, this Project has been especially meaningful to me. No detail was overlooked and we worked tirelessly to not only malce this a great functioning winery, but to also make it a place for friends and family to gather'
