What to Expect

Riesling is a chameleon of a grape, able to produce world class wines that range from bone dry to unctuously sweet. Germany is most closely associated with Riesling, where all styles are made and the range of flavors runs the gamut from steely and crisp with crunchy mineral-driven flavors to fresh lime, apple and peach flavored expressions - even rich honied, candied fruit tones in the great dessert wines.

Winemakers Notes

2004 was a great vintage for Riesling, and a very good vintage in Alsace, with extremely healthy, ripe grapes and beautiful crisp acidity. One could compare this vintage with famous vintages like 1995 or 1996, which were wonderful vintages for classic Rieslings.

The vineyards used for the Trimbach 2004 Riesling were selected by Pierre and Jean Trimbach, and the grapes harvested in late October. The fruit was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats. There was no secondary malolactic fermentation, so as to maintain as much natural acidity as possible. read more...The wine was released after two years of cellar aging.

Bright, with green edges and a developed nose, the wine shows a hint of mineral flavor, which is associated with perfect ripeness. Flavors of white peach, quince and lemon on the palate with a lingering, clean and dry finish. Riesling is at its best with marinated, grilled, or sauced fish, and sushi. Very good with traditional Alsace dishes like onion tarte, choucroute, and pork.    (hide)
