What to Expect

Riesling is a chameleon of a grape, able to produce world class wines that range from bone dry to unctuously sweet. Germany is most closely associated with Riesling, where all styles are made and the range of flavors runs the gamut from steely and crisp with crunchy mineral-driven flavors to fresh lime, apple and peach flavored expressions - even rich honied, candied fruit tones in the great dessert wines.

Winemakers Notes

2004 was a great vintage for Riesling, and a very good vintage in Alsace, with extremely healthy, ripe grapes and beautiful crisp acidity. One could compare this vintage with famous vintages like 1995 or 1996, which were wonderful vintages for classic Rieslings.

The vineyards used for the Trimbach 2004 Riesling were selected by Pierre and Jean Trimbach, and the grapes harvested in late October. The fruit was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats. There was no secondary malolactic fermentation, so as to maintain as much natural acidity as possible. read more...

A nice Alsatian Riesling: fruit, hint of mineral, more than sufficient acid, though.

A family-run winery since 1626 with some of the best Grand Cru vineyards in Alsace. This, the basic Riesling, is delicate yet firm, fresh, dry and finely mineral.

A fruity aroma with a slight hint of petrol. Quite acidic taste, a bit too much for me...

Nuts and minerals on the nose. Attack is plain and dry but enjoyable once I got over the thought that I was munching down on a lemon. That first pucker was profound. Finish has slight hints of pear but disappears very quickly.

Light golden hue, nose of minerals, fruit and some typical Riesling plastic-ness. Acidic attack followed by some lush fruit. Fairly full bodied, with a slightly sharp finish. Good, but a little pricey for the quality for me.
