Winemakers Notes

Perfect Indian summer weather and botrytis combined to produce this powerful and elegant Gewuztraminer. It has lovely quince, baked apple, and lychee nut aromas on the nose that lead to a medium to full-bodied, refined, and expressive character. Dried fruit, apricots, rose water, lychee nuts, and violets can be found in its elegant, yet expressive personality. It is concentrated, balanced, and intense.

Location: Grand Cru Osterberg in Ribeauvillé and old vines from Muelhforst in Hunawihr
Soil: clay-limestone and Muschelkalk (limestone with shells)

56g sugar - and the nose confirms this. However, in the mouth the wine barely came off as anywhere near that sweet. A beautiful balance of acidity, minerality and the sugar leads to a wine that tasted like it had just half that sugar.

Its age meant that much of the gewurtz character had tempered. There were still aromas of pot pourri, candied fruits and violets, but really at this stage this is a wine of balance. Very nice

Served with warm apple strudel, cheddar, and calvados cream
