Trevor Jones Chardonnay Barossa Valley Virgin 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 Virgin Chardonnay was blended from the fruit of 15 growers and 20 different parcels. As the name may suggest, it receives no oak treatment. Medium straw-colored, it offers an alluring bouquet of white peach, pear, and baked apple. Medium-bodied, with excellent concentration, the wine is mouth-filling, rich and long in the finish. Drink it over the next 1-2 years.View our video review of this wine!

White peach and pear flavors make this rich, buttery wine work well with grilled chicken served with a fruit sauce (e.g., smothered in apples). The wine drinks more like a Sauvignon Blanc than a Chardonnay. It has a long finish and is a bit heavier than an SB, but lacks the oak flavoring of a typical Chardonnay.

Good floral but not too sweet.

This Austrailian wine exhibits all the great characteristics of the Chardonnay grape without the manipulation of oak. Melon, herbs, and an underlining complexity dominate the flavor spectrum of this full-bodied wine. The finish is very clean, making this a wine with most seafood dishes. So twist off the cap and enjoy.

This beauty from Trevor Jones is arguably the finest tank-fermented and aged, non-oaked New World Chardonnay. Some lees contact along with early bottling result in an exquisite Chardonnay displaying notes of tangerine oil, orange zest, white peaches, and lemon in a vibrant, vivacious format. There is a light green hue to the winersquo;s straw color. With surprising fatness, superb fruit, wonderful richness and length, and good underlying acidity buttressing admirable power as well as freshness, this knock-out should be consumed over the next 1ndash;2 years. There are 4,000 cases of this beauty.

Consistently one of the worldrsquo;s best non-oaked, or ldquo;Virginrdquo; Chardonnays, Trevor Jonesrsquo;s offerings attain a laser-like precision without sacrificing any of their rich, white peach, pear, and honeyed citrus fruit. The medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure, charming, tasty 2005 Virgin Chardonnay will be very flexible with a variety of cuisines if drunk during its first several years of life.

Pale gold. Fresh pear, nectarine and peach on the nose, with a bright floral quality adding verve. Firm, juicy orchard and pit fruit flavors are nicely lifted by talc-y minerals. Blends ripe and bright notes deftly, finishing with impressive juicy, leesy persistence. One could drink lots of this very easily.
