Tres Picos Garnacha Iwc 91 2010
The grapes for this wine were harvested from old-vine Garnacha vineyards that cling to rugged terrain on the slopes of the famous Moncayo mountain with low yields of less than two tons per acre. The mountainside, iron-rich, gravelly vineyards reach an elevation of 2,100 feet. The terrain prevents the use of any kind of machinery; as a result, all of the grapes are hand-harvested.

A bit tight on the nose with a spicy, tarry blackberry and licorice nose with an ashy top note. Seamless on entry, then slowly fills the mouth with rich fruit, black and blue fruits, with well-integrated acids and nicely-managed tannins. There’s a little caramelized beefiness on the back end that leads into a rather fruity, long finish that hints at blackberry and black cherry with a beef jerky overtone. There’s a nice little mineral edge that emerges with time as well and a hint of blueberry. This is actually mighty tasty, but it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that it’s not 100% Garnacha.

For me this was a very drinkable wine. Rich red color and light on tannins. Had some blackberry and raspberry notes. I didn't pick up the ashy notes others mentioned, but that could be because I was smoking a cigar with the wine. All in all I would drink this wine again.
Not bad- very high in alcohol (14.5%). It felt more like a dessert wine than a table wint to me. It reminded me of an overdone Argentinian Malbec.
This wine has a great nose of dark fruit with a gentle smokiness. The taste offers much of the same busting with the flavors of blackberry and black cherry. It has a light minerality with well balanced tanins. The finish is somewhat short in my opinion leaving a lingering flavor of light oak on the palate.
Third wine in the around the world wine tasting in February 2013. Flavor was strong and sweet, preferred others.

Dark ruby color with shades of purple. At the nose there is a rich aroma of ripe berries with hints of floral tones typical of the Garnacha, a unique variety. In the mouth, it is a full bodied rich wine with a taste of blackberries, strawberries and hints of leather, vanilla and plums. It is perfectly combined with a sweet and pleasant tannin that leads to a long, balanced and smooth finish.

One of my favorite offerings from the Bodegas Borsao is the 6,000-case cuvee of the 2010 Tres Picos. Made from 100% Garnacha aged in equal parts stainless steel and French oak, this is the Bodegas Borsao's interpretation of Chateauneuf du Pape. (But when's the last time you saw a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape priced at $17 - about 30 years ago?) Deep notes of roasted herbs, sweet black cherries and raspberries, peppers and spice soar from the glass of this dark ruby/purple-tinged wine. Food Pairings for Tres Picos Garnacha Iwc 91
Red fruit intensity is apparent throughout the aromas and flavors of this wine; sawdust and toast reflect its barrel character, at least some of which derives from American oak. The exuberant fruit is more than matched by the spicy barrel notes with long vanilla, black raspberries, and plums to the finish. A bit of raisin also suggests some slight overripeness, but nothing is out of balance.
