A delicious offering (as well as a super bargain) from this backwater region, Tres Ojos' 2003 Garnacha Old Vines was made by a cooperative, and selected by innovative importer Fran Kysela. A soft, seductive, fruity, kirsch liqueur-filled Spanish version of a Cotes du Rhone, it possesses medium body, loads of personality, and a sexy, heady palate. Enjoy it over the next 1-2 years.
This 100% old vine Grenache from the Calatayud region in Spain is one exceptional value. With juicy red fruit and soft tannins, this wine is very approachable and easy to drink. So, if you're in the hunt for a great wine without spending a lot of money, this wine is for you.
Silky and lush red raspberry fruits stream by on an elegant soft frame. Perfect food wine that refreshes the palate with mouthwatering, bright juicy berry flavors and lively acidity.
Deep red. Lush raspberry and candied cherry aromas, with hints of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Ripe and lush, with good weight and depth to its raspberry and strawberry flavors. No obvious tannins get in the way of the rich, sappy red fruit. An excellent value.
The 2004 Tres Ojos Tinto is made from 100% Garnacha old-vines (40-50 years). This delicious, fruity wine offers spice, pepper, and cherry aromas and kirsch-like flavors reminiscent of a quality Cotes du Rhone. It is a superb value.
Bright ruby color. Primary dark berry aromas are simple but offer very good purity and focus. Juicy blackberry and bitter cherry flavors are youthfully tangy, with good back-end acidity adding snap. The clean, brisk finish leaves behind notes of sweet dark berry preserves and cracked pepper. As usual, this is a very good bargain, even with the lousy dollar.
The 2007 Old Vines Garnacha, sourced from 40-50 year old vines, was aged for 12 months in stainless steel. Purple-colored, the nose exhibits spice box, violets, and black cherry. On the palate it has plenty of supple-textured, succulent fruit and a finish with no hard edges. Drink it over the next three years.
