The Trentadue family arrived in Sonoma County long before their region gained a reputation as the Wine Country. Life-long, hands-on agriculturists, Evelyn and Leo Trentadue contributed significantly to the advancement of their region over the years. In 1959, the Trentadues decided to flee the developers encroaching on their apricot and cherry orchards in Sunnyvale, the area known today around the world as Silicon Valley. To preserve their way of life, these hard-working Italian ranchers purchased 208 acres of land in Sonoma County's then remote Alexander Valley. The Trentadue family has been growing premium red wine grapes on their 200 acre estate in the Alexander Valley for over 47 years. With vines dating back to 1886, to the adaptation of improved farming practices and the planting of new clones and rootstocks, the Trentadues continue to balance the traditions of the area's early Italian growers and the ever-evolving changes within the viticulture industry. Of the twelve varieties grown on the Estate, special attention is given to blocks of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet France that make up the four selections in our award winning La Storia line of wines and ports. Our farming practices reflect a commitment to fruit quality and to the land from which it comes. We carefully select the varieties that thrive in our microclimate and gravely-loam soils. We practice sustainable agriculture and believe we are stewards of the land and utilize all of the elements available to put the most we can offer into each bottle of wine while retaining the viability of our estate for generations to come. While the majority of our vines are supported by trellis wires, our Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Carignane blocks are head pruned, which we believe allow these varieties to produce higher quality fruit. Although more labor is involved in farming grapes this way, the improved fruit quality outweighs the increase time and labor cost. We use soil-building cover crops which add nutrients and nitrogen into the soil, as well as control erosion and suppress unwanted weeds. All of our fruit is hand picked, mostly at night which keeps the temperature of the juice from 50 to 60 ° F, which preserves and enhances the flavors of the grapes. Smoky yet subdued from the glass with a slow-to-emerge, layered nose that reveals woodsmoke, honey, crushed flowers, candied wild cherry and cedar aromas. Rich yet bright on entry, with very fine tannins offering excellent support to the fresh fruit. There is a subtle note of watermelon rind up front, which is joined by lovely spiced cherry notes on the mid-palate and a late balsamic note, lending this a Christmas spice character. It’s rather transparent on the palate with a restrained feel, though it is a full-bodied wine. The finish is both a touch hot and short with more of an oaked, shaved chocolate tone, yet the red berry fruits win out on the finale. 88pts

Rich on the nose with freshly crushed black cherry, mulberry and boysenberry fruit, framed with some vanilla and wood spice. Richly flavored with great fresh fruit notes that are well supported by judiciously used oak. Exuberant in the mouth and bursting with fresh berry fruits, though the wine remains fresh and precise in the mouth and onto the modest finish. Not the most complex or powerful but very well behaved. A wine I want to drink. 89pts

Oaky and peppery aroma, a little green. Nice soft approach with heat and acids coming out more in the body. A little volatile on the finish

Tasting Notes:

40th Anniversay Collector's Edition The grapes for this wine were selected from the best head pruned vines mostly from Block 303 in our Estate Geyserville Ranch. Classic Alexander Valley Zinfandel with deep dark cherry and plum aroma, exuberant blackberry and pepper. The aging for 11 months in 30% new European oak barrels enhances the aroma with toasty oak, chocolate and vanilla. We are proud to share this highly awarded wine with you and your family. Cheers!
