Dark and earthy on the nose with toasty oak spice and hints of licorice and dried herbs framing a core of dark, plummy fruit. Soft yet bright in the mouth with a hint of sweetness but mostly bright, herb and earth inflected blackberry fruit framed with hints of vanilla and toasted spices. This sits rather upright in the mouth with a fair amount of austere wood tannins adding backbone here. I wouldn’t want to wait too long on this, though today it;s quite nice with good structure and fresh fruit accented with coffee and mocha on the moderately long and somewhat drying finish. A little rough around the edges. 86pts

The wine has a dark red color with intense dark cherry aromas, blueberries and cherry cola as an immediate impression. With aeration, nuances of vanilla appear with maple and cocoa and show a slight dose of oak and toast. On the mouth, the wine is fresh and juicy with youthful brightness, finishing long and fruity.

Winemaker's Notes:

To commemorate the 32ndbottling of our Old Patch Red, we added “Lot 32” to the label to disdiguishthis blend as a true original in the ever expanding red blend category. Most of the grapes, with the exception of our Estate Carignane, were sourced from Mendocino and Lake Counties of Northern California. This OPR blend is predominantly Zinfandel blended with Petite Sirah, Carignaneand Tempranillo, resulting in a very fruity and Rhone-like wine. Our 2010 OPR is delicious now but it will reward your patience with 2-3 years of aging. Cheers!
