Editorial Reviews for Treana Cabernet-Syrah Blend Paso Robles Red
Sandy soil tone with fine herbal elements. A bit of burnt rubber and some dried citrus peel notes. This does smell a bit alcoholic though it has a nice black cherry jam note on the nose. Lots of fruit up front with red cherry, red currant and dried strawberry fruit. Some nice mineral notes offer contrast and cut on the palate of this rather large scaled wine. This leans towards being a bit sweet and jammy though it has enough tannin and minerality to cut through the fruit particularly on the finish, which shows some dusty mineral notes, slightly drying tannins and a touch of heat 91pts

1996 was the first release of Treana. The Hope Family created this winery to produce this special blend of Rhone and California varietals. Since its inception it has been a major success, displaying the richness and character of these grapes and how well the flavors meld together. This latest release is all from their vineyards in Paso Robles and blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Syrah. The wine was aged if French oak barrels half of which were new oak. The bold intensity is is expected but what unexpected is the supple, mouth-filling ripeness of this 2008. Rich flavors of cherry, plums, black currant, ripe figs and dark chocolate spread out on your palate and thrill your taste buds. It's an incredibly friendly wine at what is now a very friendly price. Don't miss it!

The 2008 Treana Red, our flagship wine, has a deeply extracted, ruby hue and displays up-front aromas of ripe, dark fruit and exotic spice. Depth and power come from the Cabernet, while a Syrah component lends inviting fleshiness. The wine's full mouthfee
The elements that go into Treana Red are aged 10-14 months in French oak, 65% of it new. In the summer after harvest, a trial blend of the best barrels of Cabernet and Syrah is created and then returned to barrel to marry the flavors depth and power from the Cabernet and an inviting fleshiness from the Syrah. The wine comes back together in tank before bottling to complete the integration and allow for final fine-tuning.The result is a wine somewhere between Napa and Bordeaux, a full-throated, luxurious wine but one with finesse as well. We walk the fine line all California winemakers walk, says winemaker Austin Hope, aiming for wine thats not over the top, not all lushness, but with some grace and elegance. The proof is in the bottle. To cite just one evaluation, the care and vision that go into Treana Red are the reason that Decanter magazine recently named the Treana Red one of the three best Regional Blends in the US keeping good company indeed.
Dark, opaque red with a clear rim. Cherry, blueberry pie, chocolate, and minerals dominate the nose. While the palate entry is soft, when this hits the midpalate it's a solid display of red and blue fruits, with a finish that is long and persistent. ... Cory Gowan. A Proprietary Blend wine from California in USA. 2008 Treana Red 750ml
After harvest, vineyard lots were fermented individually in open-top stainless steel tanks for 14 days. Carefully managed pump-overs enhanced the extraction of color and tannin. The varietals were aged separately in 100% French oak barrels, 50% of which were new. The best lots were combined to create the blend in early 2010. The wine was racked only twice during its cellar life, with the final racking occurring just prior to bottling.
The 2008 Treana Red's intense color immediately set the table for a wine of great depth, structure and balance. Concentrated aromas of bright red cherry, pomegranate and plumb are followed by intense flavors of dried figs, cocoa, spice and bay leaf. The wine culminates with a long and balanced finish. The 2008 Treana Red will continue to develop wonderfully for the next ten years.
