Treana Cabernet-Syrah Blend Paso Robles Red 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

At harvest, vineyard lots were fermented separately then barreled down in 100% French oak from a variety of coopers. 65% of the barrels were new. After finalizing the 2006 blend, the Treana Red was aged 14 months in barrel and racked only twice during its cellar life.

A drinkable white, slightly sweet, nothing spectacular.

This was a lovely wine; candied nose with hints of white flowers and some stoney fruit, medium bodied bliss, the alcohol was well balanced making it easy to drink.

90 Points - International Wine Cellars (70% cabernet sauvignon and 30% syrah) Inky ruby. Powerful dark berry, licorice and smoked meat scents are impressively pungent and sharpened by cracked pepper and baking spices. Showing its syrah side today. Supple and deep in dark berry preserve flavors, with velvety tannins adding support. Gains weight and sweetness on the finish, leaving a strong boysenberry quality behind. This is already drinking very well. - Steven Tanzer

Tasting Notes:

The 2006 Treana Red displays elegant tannins that provide structure, depth and balance to this Paso Robles blend. Up-front aromas of ripe fruit, dark fruit and exotic spice are followed by rich notes of mulberry and plum. Complementary flavors of mocha, tobacco and toasted oak round out this complex wine. The Syrah adds a bright fruit component, wile the Cabernet provides depth and power. A full, rounded mouthfeel leads to a silky, lasting finish. Luxurious and well balanced now, the 2006 Treana Red will continue to age beautifully over the next decade.
