Tralcio Antico Morellino di Scansano 2017

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a little shop near the hotel I stayed in when I attended my nephew's wedding in Italy back in the summer. I beleive Tralcio Antico to be some sort of brand name because I have seen it on a number of Italian wines but the back label of this bottle indicates that it was actually produced by the Piccini company. Morellino di Scansano was created a DOC in 1978 and upgraded to a DOCG in 2007 and refers to red wines made of at least 85% sangiovese [a grape called morellino in this area] from around the village of Scansano in the coastal part of Tuscany. I started my bottle last night with my pizza supper. There is plenty of a cherry and redcurrant style fruit with a hint of pepper or spice on the finish with some soft but well structured tannins. In short this was a lovely wine that went well with the pizza.
