Touraine Gamay Domaine du Prieure 2011

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a stand at the 2017 London France Show [www.amandaswines.co.uk ] for £10. The Touraine appellation was created in 1939 [although viticulture here goes back to at least the Romans] for red, white, rose and sparkling wines produced in 70 communes around the town of Tours in the Loire valley. It is an umbrella appellation because it includes a number of smaller appellations such as Chinon and Vouvray. Domaine du Prieure is a small family owned concern located south of the Loire near Chateau Chaumont about halfway between Amboise and Blois. My bottle is 100% gamay and was aged in stainless steel tanks rather than oak barrels.I started my bottle last night with my supper of chicken kiev.My first impresion was that it was full-bodied and full of fresh fruits [think blackberry and blackcurrant ] There was a suggestion of licorice and also spice on the finish. It was well structured with soft tannins. It was a lovely wine that went well with the food.
