Tour Bayard Montagne St. Emilion 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

Here you’ll discover a classic claret that can be enjoyed now, but at its price, it would be wise to stash a few in your cellar. Great Bordeaux need not break the bank!

This satellite Saint Emilion appellation (Montagne-Saint-Emilion) is usually of consistently good quality, and Tour Bayard is no exception: on the nose, there are cherry-cola notes and a whiff of fresh steel with red licorice. The entry is slightly warm (alcoholic) with healthy tannins on the inside of the mouth. The wine is quite dense with a slightly weak fruit core dominated by cherry. Might do with 2 more years in the bottle (for Anglo-American tastes, perhaps) but good quality all round and drinkable now. Good value. 88 points.
