Torres Mas la Plana a Selection of Wines Or Other Items Spain Vilafranca del Penedes Do Penedes Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

91 points Josh Raynolds (IWC): Smoky cherry and redcurrant aromas are complicated by cured tobacco, musky underbrush and licorice. Deep, weighty and broad, with potent bitter cherry and licorice flavors given energy by mineral and dried flower notes...firm finish, but there's ample supporting fruit.

I loved the 2001 Mas La Plana. I've only tried the 2003 once. It was a bit young for me. I'm holding two bottles to try in 2008. It is hard to say right now whether it will improve significantly.

Excellent blend of dark sweet cherry, heavy vanilla and spice, liquorice and dark fruit. The flavour complexity generated goes really well and leaves the drinker very satisifed.

Given to me opened by Anthony. Very smooth for a Cabernet, aromas of chocolate and cherry, not as spicy for a cab, and aging very slowly. Should try again once I can develop a taste for expensive wine. Pairings: decent with red meat, probably better with a spicy, thick dish like turkey with stuffing or sausage and peppers over spaghetti

Wine Tasting NotesDeep, dark cherry color. Intense and complex aroma reminiscent of plum and blackberry jam, as well as spicy hints of sandalwood and liquorice. On the palate, the wine is majestic with silky tannins that give it density and elegance. A long and voluptuous finish, with fine hints of coffee and indications of mint.

Weingut: Miguel TorresLand: SpanienRegion: Katalonien - PenedèsRebsorte: 100% Cabernet SauvignonInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 14,0 Vol.%Fassreife: in Barriques gereift (18 Monate)Lagerfähigkeit: 7-10 Jahre ab Jahrgang Empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16-18 °C Rotwein > Spanien > Katalonien

Plush in texture, elegant in structure, this red offers smoky berry, lead pencil and tobacco flavors, balanced and clean, with spices and berries on the finish. Not a blockbuster, but graceful. Drink now through 2010.

Deep red. Smoky cherry and redcurrant aromas are complicated by cured tobacco, musky underbrush and licorice. Deep, weighty and broad, with potent bitter cherry and licorice flavors given energy by mineral and dried flower notes. Youthful tannins give this a firm finish, but there’s ample supporting fruit. Still, I’d leave this one in storage for at least another five years.

A core of fleshy plum and currant fruit is accented by vanilla, coffee and a hint of tar. There’s a slightly rustic character, but this is solid and well-integrated, with a lingering floral note on the finish. Best after 2008.
