Viticulture in Puglia is history and at the same time innovation. Cultivation of wines started thousands of years ago, at the time of "Magna Grecia", to which the Greek origins of many names of Apulian grape varieties attests. Tradition continues through the presence of native varieties such as Negroamaro, Aglianico and Primitivo, both true expressions of a strong and extra-ordinary vital territory. The production of high quality wines is related to recent steps towards innovation and creativity: substantial changes have been obtained through the use of modern viticulture techniques and the introduction of non native grape varieties (i.e. Chardonnay and Cabernet) that express themselves in this "terroir" in a completely unique way. Tormaresca is the expression of the above two souls. Character, personality and top quality are the characteristics that Puglia transmits to the native grape varieties. For this reason the Antinori family gave birth to Tormaresca in 1998 when they started investing in Puglia, considering it one of the most promising regions in Italy for the production of high quality wines with a strong territorial identity. Simple but a great weekday night dinner wine for the price. Not any where close to the complexity of Italy's greats from Piedmont or Tuscany but still give you a taste of the Italian terrior. More fruit forward than one would expect with a somewhat flat finish. Hints of red berry and strawberry.

Rustic and earthy, with chocolate and coffee flavors. We really like this wine a great deal, and it would pair well with red pasta dishes and grilled steak. Great value at around $10.

Rustic and leathery, with ripe fruit and fine tannins. The core is negroamaro earthiness but the cabernet adds some nice balance and complexity. This is a really fine value at around $10.

Nice wine, and pretty good for the price. Kind of low key and smooth, but with little floral spice-notes that dance around over top of the smoothness. This wine seemed a little delicate considering it has Primitivo and Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, but then again, I tried it after having a Primitivo. Overall a pretty good find.

Spicy black cherry and blackberry notes are fresh and lively, as hints of underbrush and tarry mineral frame the finish. Negroamaro, Primitivo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now.

Deep red. Sexy, clean aromas of floral red berries and red cherry. Offers a lush but smooth texture firmed up by an edge of acidity. Not particularly complex, but the pliant red berry fruit offers considerable appeal. Could use more acidity for greater vivacity. Finishes with average length.
