Tormaresca Neprica Negroamaro-Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Member Review by connie7899:

Black pepper and other spices. Well balanced. No hint of tannin. Maybe more time breathing would have reduced the pepper. Surprisingly strong for an Italian wine.

Viticulture in Puglia is history and at the same time innovation. Cultivation of wines started thousands of years ago, at the time of "Magna Grecia", to which the Greek origins of many names of Apulian grape varieties attests. Tradition continues through the presence of native varieties such as Negroamaro, Aglianico and Primitivo, both true expressions of a strong and extra-ordinary vital territory. The production of high quality wines is related to recent steps towards innovation and creativity: substantial changes have been obtained through the use of modern viticulture techniques and the introduction of non native grape varieties (i.e. Chardonnay and Cabernet) that express themselves in this "terroir" in a completely unique way. Tormaresca is the expression of the above two souls. Character, personality and top quality are the characteristics that Puglia transmits to the native grape varieties. For this reason the Antinori family gave birth to Tormaresca in 1998 when they started investing in Puglia, considering it one of the most promising regions in Italy for the production of high quality wines with a strong territorial identity. Drink Now-The 2010 Neprica is a great example of the inexpensive, utterly delicious reds southern Italy is capable of. This plump, juicy Neprica offers lovely dark fruit, licorice and herbs on a powerful frame. It is an incredible value. Neprica is a blend of Negroamaro, Primitivo and Cabernet Sauvignon. @shopperswines

From Antinori comes this incredibly delicious perpetual Best Buy. It fact Food & Wine Magazine just named one of the Top 10 Best Bargain Wines in the World! "An absurd value!" Neprica is a blend of 40% Negroamaro 30% Primitivo and 30% Cabernet from Antinori’s two estates in Puglia. Of course Negroamaro is the ubiquitous native variety found in virtually ever Puglia wine including the very popular Salice Salentino. Leave it to the masters at Antinori to blend in Cabernet to give it international class and style.

This wine has aromas of berries and light, spicy licorice. It is a harmonious blend with flavors of dark fruit, chocolate, and hints of licorice with a balanced acidity.

The estate’s 2010 Neprica is 40% Negroamaro, 30% Primitivo and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Sweet berries, flowers, mint, licorice and spices waft from the glass in this attractive, mid-weight red. A hint of oak on the finish is a bit obtrusive, otherwise the 2010 is an attractive wine best enjoyed over the next 2–3 years, while the fruit remains vibrant. Anticipated maturity: 2013–2015.
