Torbreck Semillon 2008
Winemaker's Notes:
Semillon has always found a natural home in the Barossa. It was one of the early white wine grape varieties planted by the first settlers around 160 years ago and so the Barossa is blessed with a heritage of old, low yielding Semillon vineyards. At Torbreck, Semillon is fermented in both stainless steel and seasoned French barriques. Torbreck Woodcutters Semillon is not unlike the white wines found in the central and southern regions of France. This is due largely to the use of the Madeira (more robust and pink skinned) clone of Semillon, grown widely in the Barossa Valley. Although not typically lemony, this wine exhibits more complex aromas of smoked almonds and honeysuckle as well as buttery textures from the natural malolactic fermentation. The palate displays a spicy mineral flintiness with exotic fruit flavours.

Editorial Reviews for Torbreck Semillon
What a great nose right off the bat, featuring rich melon, quince, and pear fruit folded up with nuanced floral tones and hints of honey and woodsmoke. From the nose you might expect this to be very bright in the mouth, and there is plenty of acid here, but the entry is rich and soft, and the wine fairly rolls across the palate. The flavors are very youthful and a bit tight with notes of wheat, apple, and meyer lemon across the mid-palate; this turns more tropical on the backend and onto the long finish, which has note of blood orange and citrus fruits before yielding to a very fine mineral finale. This is a big white wine, but in a very refreshing style; it would be dynamite with a rich white fish in a buerre blanc. 92pts

Add your reviewVery interesting nose with coconut, chocolate, and peaches, and a perceivable butteriness. The attack is very mild, and the body rises slowly on the mouth, with an aftertaste of apples and citrus, and some herbal notes. Very smooth.
Grassy notes with lemon and pine on the nose. Zesty acidity throughout, with some light oak and a hint of sweetness in the mouth. More lemons and then a long creamy finish.
Steely melon and lemon on the nose. Medium bodied with gentle acidity and moderate sweetness. Finish is buttery and creamy and a little green pepper to balance it out. Very nice.
pale goldish green, full-bodied, super tart. barely off dry with luscious pineapple, banana, tangerine peel.
External Reviews for Torbreck Semillon

Medium bodied with a pristine lemon hue this youthful Semillon offers delicate scents of calamansi, limestone, candle wax, and toasted brioche. The copper - pink skins of this robust, age - old 'Madeira Clone' flesh out the palate, lending notes of almond kernels, soft pineapple, roasted cashew and white peach. Under lying notes of citrus oil and minerals maintain the wines freshness whilst a crisp spine of razor-like acidity neatly lace together the finish.
