What to Expect

Grenache is the main grape in many Rhone blends and most Cotes du Rhone and Chateaunuef-du-pape. It's a grape that yields soft, lightly colored yet full wines endowed with deep notes of strawberry and raspberry. While not prone to producing particularly rich or complex wines in France, Grenache is one of the world's most widely-planted grapes, producing unique expression where ever it is planted. It is particularly common in Spain as Garnacha, and Sardinia, as Canonnau,

Winemakers Notes

Wine Advocate # 173 Oct 2007 Jay Miller 98 The 2005 Les Amis, sourced from a 100+-year-old vineyard, is 100% Grenache aged for 18 months in new oak. Remarkably fragrant, it emits full-throttle aromas of spice box, kirsch, wild raspberry, and blackberry liqueur. Plush on the palate, it reveals layers of rich, red and black berry flavors, ripe tannin, and a 60-second, pure finish. Although it can be admired now, the wine merits 6-8 years of further bottle aging to reveal all of its splendors. This sensational effort could easily masquerade as Pegau Cuvee de Capo on human growth hormone. Torbreck, read more...

Extraordinarily elegant for a wine of such power, richness, and intensity, it is an inky colour, deep with a dark purple lustre and blackish robe highlights. The nose is extraordinarily deep in fruit cake, dark chocolate, liquorice and sweet almost plum jam aromas. Amazingly delineated, with a further bouquet of gorgeously sweet smoke, spice box, black cherry liqueur, creme de cassis, licorice, and lavender, it offers impressive balance, purity, opulence, and persistence. A decadent wine in the mouth with outstanding depth, concentration of flavour, lashings of tannin and warmth of alcohol.
