Topel Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2007

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Deep and rich on the nose with a great base of muddy earth, soft hints of herbs and poblano chili, all floating around in a cloud of black currant fruit. The oak is obvious here but it’s just framing the fruit at this point adding nice pepper and spice grace notes. This soft, broad and low in the mouth. The tannins are nicely polished and the fruit, red currant, black currant, and a bit of blueberry all flow over the chocolaty core that’s flecked with hint of dried chili. It’s basically ready to drink today though should age well for a decade. I love the hints of earth and chili here that yield to a nicely fruit finish before returning for a moment on the finale. Pretty typical Howell Mountain Cabernet, one could wish for a little more tension in the mouth but this is going to please many people. 89pts

Bright and fruity aromas of ripe plum and blackberries. Little bit of tar and leather on the palate, some lingering black fruit, and a long wooded finish.

Very spicy and chocolate on the nose. Very dry with some light fruits and a dark heavy finish.
