Tolosa Winery Chardonnay Edna Valley No-Oak Chardonnay 2009
In our No Oak Chardonnay we have very few tools for effecting flavor compared to our barrel fermented Chardonnay. In some ways even though the winemaking method is simpler for the No Oak, it is more difficult to achieve the highest quality outcome. We have found that harvesting the fruit at night when it is cold and then pressing it very gently and minimizing juice yield per ton is the path to the best white wines. The wines are fermented in stainless tanks using yeast strains selected both for perfume and silkiness on the palate. It is our desire that this wine have a similar weight and richness as our barrel fermented wines, but without the oak character.
Tolosa Winery is a solar, sustainable estate winery located in the San Luis Obispo, on the central coast of California. We specialize in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which thrive in cooler climates.
South african in essence. Very light for a chardonnay, most likely due to the no homo, i mean no oak. Good pairing with chicken cutlets.
Clean, crisp and light mouthfeel yet good body and nice acidity to go with food. It's a straw colored liquid but rich in fruit and finish. Slightly stringent, it may appeal to those that enjoy a rich sauvignon blanc. This wine is unique in that it is steel fermented yet there is still much flavor without the malo-lactic fermentation. A nice product by Tolosa in the Edna Valley.
Pure chardonnay fruit with nothing to hide behind. One of the best quality Chardonnay's at its price point. Driven by tropical fruit and a wonderful backblone of acidity. Bright and crisp this is a home run.
First off, I'm adding a glass on my review for the color. Almost a neon-bright lime green. Outta this world.Really dug this...killer QPR... no oaky BS, no vanilla suckage. Robust citrus and straw combo. Good weight to it. Mad I didn't order more bottles from Wine Library on this one. Not an American chardonnay fan AT ALL and was curious about the naked no-oak wines. SOLD off of this one.
Very tasty, buttery, smooth, yums all around.

A pure expression of Chardonnay, with lime blossom, ripe peach and tangerine fruit layered over a core of cool-climate minerality. Beautiful weight and richness, balanced by elegant, crisp acidity, and a touch of sweet anise on the finish. From the
Wine Enthusiast ReviewJust beautiful and oh, so refreshing. The cool vintage has resulted in a high-acid wine of enormous fruit, bursting with intense, classic Edna Valley flavors of limes, kiwis, Meyer lemons, honeysuckle and minerals. The vanilla spice and creamy smoke have got to come from the terroir, because the wine never saw a splinter of oak.Wine Tasting NotesA pure expression of Chardonnay, with lime blossom, ripe peach and tangerine fruit layered over a core of cool-climate minerality. Beautiful weight and richness, balanced by elegant, crisp acidity, and a touch of sweet anise on the finish. We especially love this wine with all manner of shellfish: Dungeness crab, red abalone, diver scallops, Pacific oysters; all in the simplest of preparations.
Wine Enthusiast ReviewThis is the winery's big, barrel-fermented Chard. Even under all that creamy, smoky oak and leesy richness, those Edna Valley acids shine through, making the lime, kiwi and pineapple flavors bright, and leading to a zingy, crisp finish.Wine Tasting NotesAromatically complex and layered with concentrated cherry and orange peel essence, with notes of sandalwood and white clover. The flavors and textures are classic, with a well structured entrance, expressive fruit mid-palate and a prolonged finish.
Food Pairings for Tolosa Winery Chardonnay Edna Valley No-Oak Chardonnay
The clear pale greenish gold color is appropriate for this style of wine. Aromas are fruity with tropical notes of pineapple and guava as well as a ripe Asian pear. Flavors in the mouth follow and it is fresh without any drying harshness. The mid palate is full and the wine has surprising finish length for its category. There are high levels of minerality and grain.
