Toasted Head Chardonnay California 2016

Member Review by wineguider:

14.5% alcohol. If you follow alcohol percentages, you know this is a bit high for a white wine. But I like that Toasted Head has amped up its chardonnay in this way. It’s like a Colt-45 version of white wine, with a splash of Vicodin – party on, Garth! And I’ll need all the amping-up I can get to muscle down this larger-than-life, 3D-animated cartoon version of California chardonnay. ULTRA-full of classic California chard flavor. Super ripe. Bonk-you-on-the-head spicy, thick, sweet and creamy. Like a trusty oversized flame-thrower, it will . . . http://wineguider.wordpress.com/2010/12/22/toasted-head-barrel-reserve-chardonnay-review/

My Rating 87: Very lively applely aromas on the nose. Body is firm with medium Smooth mouth feel . I don't detect oak in here at all. These might be well used barrels. When others talk about being buttery they mean the content of Glycerin that causes this to give the wine an somehow oily character. overall given the low sales price at Costco ($8)) a good wine.

Paler than the aroma and flavor indicates. Smells like amazing oaky buttery goodness. Flavor is incredibly intense, almost too intense. All the flavors the winemaker says may be in there, but to me it tastes like a slap-you-in-the-face chardonnay. Very yummy and very demanding on the palate.

The nose of RH Phillips Toasted Head Chardonnay offers ripe pineapple and peach aromas with toasted graham cracker. The bright straw color prepares the palate for the rich tropical fruit and luscious stone fruit with a viscous mouth feel accented by toasted coconut, vanilla and butterscotch. The creamy finish lingers with hints of buttered toast and lemon zest.

This brilliant, golden-straw-colored Chardonnay has distinctive oak flavors paired with robust fruit reminiscent of white peach and Asian pear. Its a rich, crisp wine with great acidity to be easily paired with foods. Barrel fermentation and aging is obvious in the wine, with nice weight and roundness and a nicely developed toasty finish. Pairs well with poultry, seafood in lemon butter sauce, or rich creamy pastas. - Winery

Big and buttery with vanilla extract and nutmeg spice. Upfront, there is plenty of ripe pear and fruit salad. Not a subtle white, this Toasted Oak Chardonnay!

A fruit-forward Chardonnay displaying an array of sweet citrus and green apple flavors. It is medium-bodied with a rich, creamy finish of butterscotch.

Round, luscious flavors and aromas of pear, mango and other tropical fruits are accompanied by the toasty oak that gives this wine its namesake.
