Toasted Head Chardonnay -California 2010
The nose offers ripe pineapple and peach aromas with toasted graham cracker. The bright straw color prepares the palate for the rich tropical fruit and luscious stone fruit with a viscous mouth feel accented by toasted coconut, vanilla and butterscotch. The creamy finish lingers with hints of buttered toast and lemon zest. This wine will pair well with creamy Italian pasta dishes, roasted chicken or fish, and fresh summer corn.
R.H. Phillips Winery, nestled in the Dunnigan Hills northwest of of Sacremento, was founded in 1983 by brothers Karl and John Giguiere along with John’s wife Lane. Twenty-eight years later the Giguiere’s continue to produce quality wine with the help of winemakers Blake Kuhn and Owen Smith. Known for their Toasted Head brand wines, the winery sits on 1,700 acres and is a favorite site for weddings and other special events.
My Rating 87: Very lively applely aromas on the nose. Body is firm with medium Smooth mouth feel . I don't detect oak in here at all. These might be well used barrels. When others talk about being buttery they mean the content of Glycerin that causes this to give the wine an somehow oily character. overall given the low sales price at Costco ($8)) a good wine.
