Toad Hollow Red Blend Dry Creek Valley Erik's the Red 2010
This California Red wine is a blend of Syrah and Merlot grapes from across the great state of California. Eriks the Red is not only big and chewy, but has a modicum of elegance. Smooth, cranberry, raspberry, honey, vanilla, nuts, cherry, nice soft finish. Not yet reviewed; 2009 vintage rated 88 points by The Tasting Panel: Smooth, dense and meaty taste with lush flavor; showing ripe plum, blackberry and spice; rich, deep and balanced flavor; long and concentrated taste.
Surprisingly good blend of 18 grapes at a low price point makes for the perfect pizza wine. Smooth drinker, with nice acidity, and not at all mushy. Cab Franc (herbal aromas), Zinfandel (blackberry fruit), and Petit Sirah (richness and body) make up the backbone of the blend, but there is a definite softness to it (pinot, grenache, dolcetto) as well. Great house red candidate.
I purchased a few bottles of Toad Hollow Red Blend last week. I was initially disappointed that it lacked character and the fruit wasn't very intense. But much to my surprise, when it opened, it was a decent wine. I think it is a bargain at under $14.
Big, bold and full of so many different grapes, it's hard to put a description on it. Paired with steaks and pasta, it can't be beat as a go-to table wine. Love, love it!
Dark earthy oak aromas with lots of black and red berry fruit, and notes of menthol. The body is a little jammy, with strong fruit overtones throughout and a strong acid/tannin structure.

Wine Tasting NotesThis is a wonderful blend of fifteen, yes fifteen, count em, different varietals of grapes from the beautiful Paso Robles area of the Central Coast of California. Toad Hollow like Erikis not afraid to hop into the fray and make a wine that is not only big and chewy, but still has a modicum of understated elegance. WOW what a wine! This is our second bottling of a red wine under the Eriks the Red label and, as you will see, with each bottling the wine becomes more interesting and complex. The majority of the blend is Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera, and Rofosco with a small amount of Syrah, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Merlot, Zinfandel, Dolcetto, Cabernet Franc and Petit Sirah only to be polished at the end with Grenache, Mouvedre, Petit Verdot and Malbec. If you have a particular red grape that grabs your fancy, youre sure to find it herefind it, we dare you!
