Editorial Reviews for Toad Hollow Chardonnay Mendocino County
Very pretty and pure aromas of slightly chalky fruit on the nose with a slight hint of leesy spice. This is moderately rich on the palate with very bright acids supporting apple, lime and pineapple toned fruit that has just a slightly spiced edge and creamy lees texture. The wine is smooth, and moderately intense on the palate in a friendly, uncomplicated style that features noticeable impact from the lees. A bit simple but well suited for pairing with something like a grilled fish sandwich, or maybe Portobello burgers. 86pts
very acid with very little flavor
This was the wine that made me a Chardonnay fan. In the past, overly oaky tones had turned me off to Chard, but when I realized there was more to this variety than Oak, I was won over for life.
Very good wine. Very fruit forward and mellow finish.

Rating: 84/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the September 2010 issue. Unoaked Chardonnay remains a hit-and-miss proposition, and when wineries try to do it with their least interesting grapes, the results are never pretty. Admittedly, there is a good first look at the grape's appley side to this wine, but it runs to uninteresting simplicity and a mix of softness at the front and acidity at the back.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
