Layers of oak spice resonate with tones of coffee, toast and toffee that linger throughout the smooth finish. Recommended drinking time is three to four years from vintage, with about one hour of decanting prior to drinking. Maximum suggested aging is ten years from vintage.

Titus Vineyards:
The 40+ acre, turn-of-the century vineyard that Lee and Ruth Titus bought in 1968 had been producing grapes for sixty years. The 40+ acre, turn-of-the century vineyard that Lee and Ruth Titus bought in 1968 had been producing grapes for sixty years. Situated on the banks of the Napa River in the heart of Napa Valley, the vineyards were comprised of widely-spaced dry-farmed vines on the vigorous St. George rootstock. The Titus family continued to farm these healthy, productive vines for another ten to fifteen years. Lee and Ruth acquired two additional parcels, totaling 20 acres. One parcel was adjacent the original acquisition, a hayfield in deep river loam soil; the other was a stony volcanic knoll rising out of the valley floor not far from Napa River. These two new parcels were planted to Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, respectively. After those parcels were planted, Lee and Ruth replanted their original vineyard. By the mid 1970's the old blocks were sequentially replaced with then-popular modern varietals, such as Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, some planted on the St. George rootstock, and some on the AXR rootstock that was becoming more commonly used at that time. The tribulations of time and the infestation of the phylloxera disease made another replanting effort necessary in the mid-1990's. At that time, diseased and weakening vines were replanted to varietals better suited for the hot upvalley climate, on disease resistant rootstocks matched for the specific soil types. Clonal selections were made to better suit the parameters that were required for the highest quality wines. Dry-farmed,"California-sprawl" trellising systems were replaced with close-spaced vertical trellis systems with automatic drip irrigation systems. The replanting efforts were essentially completed in 2001. Cabernet Sauvignon (our flagship wine) is now the predominant estate varietal, although ample acreage is also dedicated to the Bordeaux blending varietals, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, as well as a small amount of Petite Sirah. Ten acres of Zinfandel from the 1970's are still in full production, gradually maturing and taking on the old-vine characteristics so sought after in this unique heritage wine. Read less

medium acidity with strong tannin finish Updated May 01, 2009 - Slightly herbacious nose. Very smooth and well balanced. Fruit is delicous and present up front. Tastes of blackberry, tobacco, and black cherries. Subtle mix of tannins and acidity provide excellent balance and finish.

Titus Vineyards’ 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was produced from the winery’s family estate vineyard, located on Napa Valley’s floor just north of St. Helana on the Silverado Trail. The site is characterized by its ability to produce complex wines with well-defined fruit flavors, gentle acids and naturally balanced tannins. Awarded 91 Points from Connoisseurs’ Guide, this release is the fourth vintage of Titus Reserve Cabernet and exudes the unique, chewy and rich varietal characters of the winery’s best estate grapes. Blending in a small amount of Petite Verdot elevates the wine’s elegant structure while a bit of Malbec and Cabernet Franc highlight the wine’s red fruit characters. This robust red wine is firing on all cylinders – mouth coating and full bodied, elegant and lush. Deep aromas of ripe blackberry, cherry and cassis are framed by layers of sweet and spicy oak, exotic allspice, smoky vanilla, mocha and smooth milk chocolate nuances. On the palate, the firm but round tannins balance the ripe fruit notes, espresso and sweet oak flavors that pair nicely with grilled steaks and rack of lamb. Rich, dark and intense, this is well-focused on the currant and blackberry fruit. Its also well-structured, with firm tannins, yet the earthy Cabernet flavors flow through nicely. vintage after vintage our Cabernet Franc balances lush notes of blue and black fruit against delicate hints of tea leaf and smoke in a velvety mouthful of wine. Our 2004 Cabernet Franc is complex, with bright intensity, round chewy tannins and a lengthy finish. rich aromas of blueberry, pomegranate and linden flower are complemented by secondary characters of black olive, cedar and vanilla. In the mouth, straightforward flavors of ripe strawberry and boysenberry are joined mid-palate by hints of smoky Earl Gray tea, black olive and violets that linger through the long finish.
