Tineta Ribera del Duero 2012

External Review by Wine Gems @ Perriello's:

Ribera del Duero, SpainTineta Ribera del Duero is a gorgeous red of 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) from Bodegas Ordonez (also referred to as Bodegas Avante.) It comes from the famed Ribera del Duero region, where the Duero River has carved its path to the sea through the high central plateau of Spain, leaving behind alluvial soils. The vineyard source for Tineta is El Carril, where the soil is gravel, sand and clay chalk. The combination of poor soils, harsh climate and high elevation produces a grape with extraordinary depth of dark fruit flavors. Robert Parker hasn't rated the 2012 vintage but he scored the 2011 91 points and called it "juicy, succulent and sensual." We call it a great red wine gem! Tineta Ribera del Duero is dark ruby/purple in color with a beautiful bouquet of blackberry, black currant, plum, and smoke. Medium-full in body with silky tannins, the palate offers rich flavors of blackberries, plums and spice. It is well balanced to enjoy now and over the next 4-5 years. The wine lingers impressively on the finish.Enjoy Tineta with roast pork, grilled lamb chops, steak, paella, and aged cheeses.

Bodegas Jorge Ordoñez is a winemaking venture formed in 2004 between the Kracher family from Austria and the Ordoñez famly from Spain, as well as various friends and wine-loving entrepreneurs, based in Malaga, Spain. The winery is overseen by brother and sister winemakers Jorge and Victoria Ordoñez and Alistair Gardner is principal winemaker. The above-mentioned Kracher is none other than Alois Kracher, known for producing some of the world’s most renown Austrian sweet dessert wines. His son, Gerhard, joined the project creatively in 2008.    The project is dedicated to producing dessert wine styles using modern innovations and techniques, made from the varietal Muscat of Alexandria. Among an impressive portfolio, they are the first in modern history to produce a naturally sweet, unfortified Moscatel wine. This method has not been produced since sweet fortified wines gained popularity in the 17th century when brandy was added to the wine to stabilize it for the long sea voyage back to England.  Read less
