Tikal "Patriota" 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2015 Patriota was a similar blend of Malbec from the Valle de Uco (Vista Flores) and Bonarda from Ribadavia matured in oak barrels for some ten months. There is no astringency or herbal notes in this blend, and the Malbec is nicely complemented by the slightly rustic character of the Bonarda. 90 pts.- Wine Advocate

A very nice blend for a smooth finish.

A complex bouquet of ink, laundry detergent, and roses sets the stage for a nice mix of berry flavors – the sweetness of the bonarda is quite evident; the texture is still rather austere, though. (AV 87, http://argovino.com/?p=568)

Very berry with great balance. It went well with acidic and spicy foods. We experimented with tabouleh and kimchi which opened up the flavor in addition to our NY strip. Deep and lengthy flavor with some coffee and much cherry flavor.

This is the first Bonarda / Malbec blend that I have had with more Bonarda in it than Malbec. So I am not sure if the results here are typical but this is a really great wine. It is inky purple wine with loads of dark fruit, tobacco and oak. The mouth feel is much more rounded and smooth than a typical Malbec blend but the muscle is still there. I was impressed.

Beautiful color and nice big bold nose. Very wonderfully balanced dark fruits with a very nice finish!

A rich red, packed with concentrated flavors of blackberry, dark plum and mocha, featuring plenty of dark chocolate notes. Offers a ripe texture, with creamy accents and hints of savory herb on the long finish. Drink now through 2020.

The 2012 Patriota is a blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Bonarda from Vista Flores in Uco Valley and La Vendimia in Lujan de Cuyo that seems to be more marked by the toasty oak, with ripe notes of banana, black cherries, chocolate and espresso coffee presenting a showy and ripe, commercial profile. The palate is medium-bodied with high acidity and grippy tannins that call for food. Drink now–2017.

Bright medium ruby. Deep very ripe aromas of blackberry black raspberry bitter chocolate and sweet oak. Suave on entry then distinctly sweet in the middle with just enough acidity to maintain its balance. Very creamy almost confectionery wine best suited for fans of this style. Finishes with sweet tannins and very good length. Perfectly drinkable now. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Aromas of bright berry/cherry fruit and electric-purple color. Like swallowing a whole bowl of mixed ripe berries at once. Big body yet very balanced, with luscious layers of raspberry, cherry, and cocoa flavors. Just a hint of baking spice at the end brings it all together.

The 2010 Patriota is a blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Bonarda aged for 12 months in French and American oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it sports an enticing nose of Asian spices, incense, lavender, plum, and blueberry. In the glass it opens to reveal a ripe, plush, savory wine with no hard edges. Drink this well-balanced, lengthy wine over the next 5–6 years. It is also an outstanding value.
