Tikal Malbec Amorio Mendoza Argentina 2009
This is our - and your - favorite Argentinian Malbec. When we introduced the last vintage it was gone in a matter of weeks. Now the stunning 2009 has arrived at $34.95 a bottle. The Tikal wines are produced by Ernesto Catena, son of Argentina wine pioneer Nicolas Catena. Amorio means "love affair" in Spanish and this wine is an expression of Ernesto's love affair with the Malbec grape and the vineyards that it comes from.
Solid, middle-of-the-road malbec with an inky nose and straightforward, deep fruit taste. Not a bad wine by any means, but better ones are available at this price. (AV 85, http://argovino.com/?p=521)

Good deep full ruby. Very expressive aromas of blueberry, violet, menthol, graphite and dark chocolate. In a rather extractive, hedonistic style, perhaps a tad roasted but offering sweet, sexy, high-toned flavors of cola, sassafras and violet. Finish... Stephen Tanzers IWC.
