The Antinori family has produced wine in Tuscany for well over 600 years, since Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri in 1385. The winery has managed to stay in the family over the centuries, now under the direction of Marchese Piero Antinori, with help from his daughters Albiera, Allegra and Alessia.    Tignanello has been produced since the early 1970s in the vineyard of the same name, and is credited with being among the very first Super Tuscans. It was one of the first wines in the region to be aged in small oak barrels to impart richer flavors.  Read less

This bottling, from a warm vintage, retains deep and spicy black currant fruit with complicating notes of anise, sassafras. Vanilla.spice is ever present. Lush in the mouth with great balance and smoothly integrated structure this is an excellent example of mature Tignanello.
