Three Saints Cab Sauvignon 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

What could have been a very difficult vintage for Bordeaux varietals in Santa Ynez Valley, one plagued by cool weather and severe shatter, turned out to produce a surprisingly subtle and nuanced Three Saints Cabernet. The unbridled power of 2005 is subdued; in its place, the 2006 trades in elegance, class and sophistication. Extraordinarily complex aromas of pipe tobacco, sandalwood and wild briar brush are freshened by Santa Cruz blackberry and violet notes. On the palate, the wine is firm, fresh and striking. Blackberry fruit is framed by fine-grained tannins and a cleansing finish.

i found this to be a truly great wine that was smooth from start to finish. the value is really nice for the quality in taste.

Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Redolent of green berries, dried herbs and dill, and never quite convincing as Cabernet, this mid-sized offering follows a bit of early palatal roundness with a sudden snap of fairly sharp acid and picks up an evident edge of heat at the end. Clean, but not especially well-composed, it wants better focus and a little more mass to win a place in our cellars.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

Deep ruby. Varietally expressive aromas of dried cherry, plum, licorice and tobacco. Juicy and slightly loose-knit, with ripe cabernet notes of plum cherry liqueur and dark chocolate. Soft and round on the finish, which features supple tannins and lingering warmth.

This is an intense ruby-colored Cabernet Sauvignon with lots of pulpy cassis fruit and dense chocolate on the nose and palate. The wine sees 20 months in oak, 40% of which is new. Truly a delicious wine and a stunning value.

Inky ruby. Youthfully primary dark berry and cherry aromas are complicated by baking spices and fresh rose. Juicy and sweet, offering suave red and dark berry flavors and a velvety texture. A forward, open-knit wine with early appeal.
