Thierry et Guy Fat Bastard Pinot Noir 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This is a touch shy on the nose but comes off as rather earthy and herb stemmy with dried cherry fruit and a hint of allspice. Round and supple on entry, this quickly shows some firmness from the acidity. Gentle but present fruit tannins lend this a bit of a plum skin after a while, showing light mineral and toast flavors that drift off onto the modest finish along with some dried cherry fruit flavor in the mouth. Notes of blackberry and cherry pop on the mid-palate, which also turns just a touch drying and extends over the rather long finish. Nicely done, perhaps not the most varietal but it drinks well and is nicely firm at this price. 85pts

We enjoyed this light bodied Pinot Noir. It has heavy ripe red fruit aromas and flavors with light tannins on the back end. Great transition wine from winter to spring. Read our full review on our blog, Two Forks and a Corkscrew.

Ok, take this for what it's worth. Tonight I had a wine tasting at my house. The theme was predominately red wines. The first three wines were Pinot Noir. I am new at wine taste reviews but I'll give it a shot. The three Pinot Noir wines were Mirassou, Castle Rock and Fat Bastard. While all three were enjoyed, Fat Bastard fared the best among the three. It just seemed to be balanced more so than the others. The finish held on longer and didn't start off aggressive as the other two. Black cherry and strawberry with a touch of vanilla come to mind first on the nose. On the pallet the same comes to mind with the exception being the vanilla. We tried various cheeses, dips and vegetables with each. I absolutely am looking forward to pairing this up with Salmon or a nice salad. This wine has stimulated my curiosity to try other Pinot Noir wines. I will buy this again and pare it up with other Pinot Noir until I find my go to favorite. Who knows, maybe it will be this Fat Bastard. We'll see.

Wine Tasting NotesRuby red color, bright and crisp Intense crushed strawberries with a hint of rose petals Lively and elegant with ripe red fruits and a hint of floral notes. Soft, smooth tannins and rich flavors of strawberries, raspberries, finishing with cherry notes. A delicious wine that marries extremely well with white meats such as chicken, veal, pork and fresh salads. The soft tannins make tuna, swordfish and sushi great complements - Fat bastard Pinot Noir is the quintessential "crossover" wine!

Rich and dense the complexity of the flavors plays out progressively beginning with blackberry and plum and finishing with toasty cedar aromas. Tannins are ripe juicy and delicate. Enjoy with roasted chicken blackened salmon or semi-soft and herbed cheeses.
